This is not your typical burger recipe. The burger is thick and juicy, with homemade jam and crunchy peanut butter! Although it sounds unusual, the combination is delicious!
The burgers will amaze everyone at your next barbecue! For a complete meal, pair these burgers alongside homemade mac and cheese or herb grilled corn.
Last summer, I tried a peanut butter and jelly hamburger for the first time. Although I don’t normally order burgers from restaurants, I was drawn to the peanut butter and jelly sandwich and decided to try it.
It was mostly out of curiosity that I ordered it. Peanut butter and jelly on a hamburger? Habanero blackberry jelly was another reason I ordered this particular hamburger. Spicy sweet jelly is my jam, pun totally intended.
The burger was delicious! This recipe has become a staple in my weekly meals.
How to make a grilled burger recipe
When making homemade hamburgers, I prefer to use 80/20 ground chuck. This means that the ground beef contains 80% lean meat and 20% fat. Although I tend to prefer lean meats, burgers with extra fat are more delicious.
Because this recipe is so complex, the peanut butter and jam are the main ingredients. I didn’t feel the burgers needed much seasoning. To flavor my beef, I only used a little salt and pepper.
Make burger patties by forming them into patties. Then, using your thumb, create an indentation at the middle of your burger. This will prevent the burgers from puffing too much when grilling.
Grill the burgers on medium heat for 5-7 minutes, depending on how thick your burger is.
How do you know when burgers are done?
A meat thermometer is the best way to determine if your hamburger (or any other meat) is done. When beef reaches 160°F, it is considered done. Before you serve your meat, let it rest. The meat will continue cooking. The juices will redistribute.
How to Make a Burger Recipe on the Stove
Cast iron skillets are my favorite way to cook burgers. Cast iron is an excellent conductor of heat, which ensures even cooking. To create the same atmosphere as a grill, I place a piece foil on top of my skillet. This allows steam and heat to be trapped.
Make a Burger Recipe in the Oven
Pre-heat the oven to 350°F Spray a broiler plate with nonstick spray. Place your beef patties in the pan. Bake the burgers in the oven for 20 minutes. Turn once. After 15 minutes, check the temperature.
How to make blackberry jam
I prefer to make my jam at least a day ahead of time so that the flavors can fully come together before I use it.
I put the berries, peppers and water into a food processor. Combine water, lemon juice, and a bit of pectin in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add sugar to the mixture and bring it to boil. Reduce heat to low and cook for a few more minutes. Let the jam cool on the stove.
The habanero pepper adds heat to this jam. You can omit the pepper. You can also use a jalapeno.
The jam should be kept in an airtight container. This recipe yields a lot of jam. You can serve the burgers at most twice.
