Three basic ingredients of a Filipino savory dish are meat, stew, and rice. This is a good choice. You can feel a sense balance with the meat by adding some protein. It adds texture and flavor to your dish. The stew sinks into the rice very well, giving the dish some tenderness. It can also add unique flavors to any recipe by using creative seasonings. The rice is a staple Filipino side dish and makes for a satisfying meal. It complements all types of viands beautifully. Beef Pares Kanto Style uses this recipe, but it does it better than most.
Beef Pares is a delicious and satisfying dish. It has rich flavor from the broth and well-seasoned meat. This delicious combination of star anise, soy sauce and black pepper makes for a delightful and aromatic dish. This dish is made even more delicious by the piquant, garlic rice that sits beside the bowl of broth.
Today, however, I will be showing you how to make the classic beef pars in kanto style. This makes the process much faster, yet it still results in a delicious dish. Even though the flavor is milder than you would expect, this dish is worth trying, especially if your preference is for a lighter beef flavor.
This Kanto Style Beef Pares is for you!
Get your pares ready. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large saucepan. Next, add the beef fat and cook for 2 minutes. Then add 1 cup chopped onion, 4 cloves chopped garlic and 3 thumbs minced ginger. Continue to saute the ingredients until tender.
Now, you can place the 3 lb beef chuck cut into cubes in a pot. Once you have done this, continue cooking the beef until it reaches a medium-rare color. This process may take up to 5 minutes. Next, pour 3 quarts water into the pot and bring it to boil.
Place 3 pieces of star anise into the pot to add sweetness and aroma. For a more flavorful mix, add 1 piece Knorr Beef Cube to the pot. Cover the pot and reduce heat to low. This is the time to be patient. We will let this cook for approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until the beef has reached the perfect texture. This helps to integrate all the flavors into the meat and broth.
To highlight the flavor of our Beef Pares, add 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, 3 tablespoons brown sugar and salt. These ingredients should be thoroughly combined in the pot. Then, you can start to make garlic rice.
